Art Boza at the Guatemala & Honduras border crossing

Welcome to Art Boza’s ShoestringWeekends.Com

Born here in the USA, I got the travel bug from my parents who lived all over the US from Seattle, Washington to Bangor, Maine all the way down to Key West, Florida while seeing thousands of places in-between either with them, on my own or on business. We lived in Key West where my mother and three siblings were all born, I on the other hand was born in Washington D.C. on vacation and delivered early.

I’ve lived my travel life below my means so that I could travel more often and therefore learned the secrets of how to stretch a dollar by utilizing my experience and acquiring many travelers tips & tricks while avoiding the tourist traps others may fall into.

I had a LIFETIME GOAL of traveling to all 50 US states (includes Alaska & Hawaii) & 50 different foreign countries before I turned age 50 which I called 50/50/50… and you know what, I did it when others said I wouldn’t… in fact I finished 1-1/2 years early!

I’m an expert traveler always packing lite and never staying in the same place too long allowing me the opportunity to see more countries. Since surpassing 50 foreign countries in 2006 I’ve not quit but have slowed down with a total of 72 countries now under my belt including: Albania, Andorra, Aruba, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Belgium, Belize, Bonaire, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Croatia, Curacao, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Martinique, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, St. Maarten, St. Martin, Sweden, Switzerland, Turks & Caicos, United States of America, US Virgin Islands, Vatican City, Wales, & Yugoslavia!

Though not a country but surely an honorable mention, in 2016 I traveled to the awe inspiring far out reaches of The Arctic Circle! The two remaining must see iconic landmarks before I die are the Egyptian Pyramids & Great Wall of China!

Now go out there and be a traveler not a tourist!

    • Hello Amy, Glad to hear from you, Debbie said you had emailed me. I’ll be going down again this weekend 4/13/12 – 4/15/12. Will you be using a ground-type tent, a pop-up/pull behind, or RV? How many nights? Do you need electricty? Let me know and I’ll scope out some places for you. I’ve blogged on 100’s of things to do and see in the Florida Keys & Key West, you might want to brows through some of them if you’re looking for something different, wierd, cool, historical or just fun to do on your upcoming visit to our families hometown of Key West. I await your answers.

I would love some information on the house that was demolished on Craig’s key. I know the unfinished house is still there but there was an older house on the island that is no longer there. I visited that house once many years ago when a friend was house sitting before the estate was finalized and I know the house had been built and owned by a drug dealer probably in the 70’s or 80’s. I believe you may have written an article about that house back in 1987. Thanks for any info you can give me. Susan
