How Was Your Hometown Named?

8629436955_4debe3a00f_bHave you ever wondered how some cities got their names? No need to guess on this one! This city tells you right in front of the City Hall’s flagpole on a bronze commemorative plaque atop a white stone pedestal. It reads: “In honor of Del and Mary Layton founders of Layton. Their vision and pioneer spirit made it possible for today’s residents and friends to enjoy the Florida Keys at their finest. Let us all remember the unique heritage of this community and to preserve its natural beauty.”

You can find this historical naming plaque at the Layton City Hall/Fire Department/Post Office/Laundromat/Petting Zoo 🙂 OK, I made up a few of those! Go to Mile Marker 68.3 oceanside on US-1 in the lovable Florida Keys.
