Dracula’s Transylvania Avenue

I think that it’s safe to say that nearly EVERYONE in the world has heard of Transylvania. I also think that some of you may be wondering right now if in fact Transylvania really exists or not. I’d bet that only a hand full of you would ever be able to point it out on a world map if it were! Well, sit back and relax, your blog tutor is here and I’ll be helping you out on all aspects of the above so listen up! 🙂

Transylvania is indeed a real historical part of what is now central Romania and is best known world-wide as the inspiration of Bram Stoker’s novel ‘Dracula’. Though Stoker didn’t invent vampires, he enhanced, elaborated and stretched the truth in creating a fictitious person named Dracula based upon the real life horrors of Vlad Tepes. Vlad Tepes was the Prince of Wallachia (portrait provided below) who ruled with an iron hand and impaled his enemies as a deterrent to others earning him the name of Vlad The Impaler. This is a historically TRUE story. Vlad invited all of his enemies over for dinner one night for a peace conference… he ended up locking all of the exits and impaling EVERYONE of them displaying their bodies on stakes in front of his castle like popsicle sticks (as seen in the gruesome depiction below).

Now that you know the history of Transylvania, Dracula & Vlad The Impaler… I’m sad to tell you that it has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with this blog other than the name of the street! OK, if truth be known, I truly love history and just wanted to pass it along to you! 🙂

Transylvania Avenue can be found in Key Largo at Mile Marker 103.3 oceanside on US-1 and is absolutely FREE to stop and take your souvenir historically-filled photo. 🙂
