Where can you find a reference to Jimmy Buffett’s Parrot Head Club on a road sign? Key West of course! Everyone knows that Key West is the United States southernmost city, but did you know that it’s home to the Southernmost Parrot Head Club too? As seen here, some loving fans of Jimmy Buffett are in cahoots with the local government and have gotten themselves a sign posted on the busiest road into Key West. I really think it’s one of those sponsor the road type things though. Either way, they got prime real estate known in the business as “Location, Location, Location”!
OK, here’s a quick schooling lesson for all of you who’ve been living under a rock for the last 37 years. 🙂 Can you believe it, Jimmy’s first hit “Come Monday” appeared on the charts way back in April 1974… wow, makes me feel old since I remember it! The term “Parrot Head” is someone who’s a Jimmy Buffett fan that got their namesake from people attending his concerts wearing multi-colored balloon shaped parrots around their heads… hence the name “Parrot Head”! And now you know!
Jimmy Buffett has always been associated with the leisurely town of Key West from his Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Souvenir Store, the incredibly famous Margaritaville Restaurant, to his little known recording studio located in Harbor Walk.
You can find this Southernmost Parrot Head Club sign at Mile Marker 2.0 on the right side of Roosevelt Blvd. down here in sunny Margaritaville… sorry, I must have been “nibbling on sponge cake” I meant Key West. 🙂
