Key’s NEWEST Florida East Coast Railway Mural

Welcome to the Florida Keys newest mural depicting Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway steaming across the Long Key Viaduct.

Dedicated on Sunday January 8th, 2012 just in time for the 100th anniversary of the railways arrival in Key West on January 12th, 1912. Former US Senator and Florida Governor Bob Graham was on hand to celebrate its so-called unavailing to the public. Measuring nearly 60′ wide by 11-1/2′ tall, this outdoor mural has a special surprise painted in the full moon on the left of its length. Look close and you can see a face painted within the moon, it’s none other than the former Standard Oil tycoon and Railway founder Henry Flagler.

I encourage all of you interested in this subject to read and look up books by Seth Bramson a local Miami author & Florida East Coast Railway Historian.

You can find this newest mural of the Keys at Mile Marker 95.4 as you head south towards Key West on the right hand side of the road on the southernmost wall of the Atlantic Title building. (as seen below)
