Though wind turbines are very common in other parts of the country, here in the Keys they’re relatively new. I know of three, two of which are pictured together here and the third is on a high school baseball field in the heart of Key West. None the less they’re unique enough standing out among the surrounding palm trees demanding notice.
These two are by far the most prominent being positioned on the main thoroughfare through the Keys US-1. Unlike the third hard to find independently owned turbine, these two appear to be operated by the local electric power company.
You can find these wind-driven Keys newcomers at Mile Marker 22.2 oceanside.
