Key’s Turtle Hospital

Question, if you were in a bar over hearing the next table speaking about Loggerheads, & Greens, you might think they were talking about types of beers! You’d be wrong though, they’re actually different kinds of sea turtles! 🙂

All types of Florida Key’s turtles can be found here at Marathon’s Hidden Harbor Turtle Hospital. The hospital offers Guided Educational Experiences to the public daily 7 days a week for your learning pleasure. Since opening in 1986 the Turtle Hospital has successfully treated and released over 1,000 Sea Turtles. The turtles are released in a variety of ways and at different locations depending on species. Green turtles are taken to Pigeon Key via ambulance. Loggerhead turtles are usually released in the Gulf Of Mexico and the funny named Kemp’s Ridleys are taken 70 miles west of Key West out to the coral reefs of the Dry Tortugas.

You can find this helping-hand hospital of a different kind in the heart of the Florida Keys at Mile Marker 48.5 bayside on US-1.
