How cool is this, a 4-story exterior spiral staircase! Count them: first floor, second floor, third floor and then the stair goes on top of the roof to a full-sized sundeck making that the fourth floor. I guaranty you that some dedicated sun-worshipers would call this a “Stairway to Heaven”.
Yes, I know that it’s not your normal roadside attraction, historical site, State Park or any of that… but it’s unique enough to warrant mention. Besides, I asked the editor if it was OK and I said “Yes”. 🙂
Now for the real Stairway To Heaven by rock-n-roll royalty Led Zeppelin who released the classic monster smash hit song in 1971. In fact, at one time it was the most played song in rock history and still today is refereed to as one of the greatest songs of all time! It’s best remembered by lead singer Robert Plant’s vocals that end with the plaintive A cappella (or Acappella) line: “And she’s buying a stairway to heaven”.
Now compare the Key’s Stairway to Heaven (above) to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven (below), don’t the nearly look identical? OK… not even close, but it sure made a good blog title! 🙂
You can find this modern-day ‘Stairway To Heaven’ on Big Pine Road down .3 miles off Largo Road in Key Largo off of US-1 around Mile Marker 107.0 bayside. This is a private residence and I do ask that you respect their yard’s boundaries by photographing or viewing from the street as I did. (I left the fence in the photo to show that I was standing outside)
