Key West’s Pink Conch Shell Symbol

Conch is pronounced “Konk” coming from a Greek word meaning shell. Conch Shells have been the official ‘unofficial’ symbol of Key West since they seceded from the U.S. in a mock ceremony back in 1982 becoming the Conch Republic.
