Florida Key’s LARGEST Sign… By Far!

I kid you not, this is BY FAR the largest sign in the Keys!

As you can see by the photo, this Florida Keys landmark dwarfs everything in its vicinity. I’ve had a photo of this iconic sign for years but refused to write the blog till having a comparison in the photo to judge its height. In curing my photo problem, I coerced this marathon runner passing by to pose for me! Believe it or not, it only cost me several baby carrots & ranch dip as I bribed her for the side-by-side comparison! (True) 🙂 The willing volunteer appears tiny as she barely rises above the bushes, I too left the street lamp to the right for judging.

I don’t have the exact height of the sign but I’ll give it my best trigonometry guess… wait a minute, didn’t I flunk TRIG in school, 🙂 oh well, I’ll say it’s 31 feet tall by 39 feet long! Go ahead, I dare you to break out your own tape measure as you pass by if you doubt my measurements! 🙂

You can find this gigantic Islander Resort roadside sign at Mile Marker 82.0 oceanside on US-1. It’s exactly across the street from the equally large mermaid known as Lorelei.

  1. Ha ha! Nice. This is really hard to miss! 🙂

    • Glad you enjoyed the blogs not so hidden satire! 🙂 But it is 100% true about me bribing the runner to stand there for carrots and ranch dip! 🙂 As you can see, I have another not so hidden talent for getting people to pose in photos for me… you never know until you ask! (and I’m not shy at all) 🙂 So, looking back at your earlier comment, it looks like you lived on the corner of Simonton & Eaton street for less than 12 months some 13 years ago. How does a person only live in Key West for a year and then leave? Interesting minds want to know!!!! 🙂

  2. I have been by that sign many times and have photographed it also. Thank you for sharing, it made me smile 🙂
