Key West Houses U.S. Postal Stamp Of Man Buried In Cuba

Only in Key West can you find a statue of a man siting beside his U.S. Postal Stamp who’s buried in Cuba! Absolutely amazing but 100% shockingly TRUE! (both are pictured below side-by-side)

On Sept. 15, 1997–Padre Felix Varela, whose 30 years of humanitarian works in the U.S. earned him high esteem, was honored with the issuance of a new 32-cent commemorative stamp. (pictured here) Key West also honored him a few weeks later on October 9th 1997. Upon his death after years of being ill, his body was sent back for burial at the University of Havana in Cuba.

You can see this amazing story come true before your eyes at the San Carlo Institute located at 516 Duval Street in Key West.
